Perform a variety of technical and supportive patient care tasks toassist attending anesthesiologists, residents and nurse anesthetists inperforming anesthetic procedures for patients rangi ngfrom infancy togeriatrics. Performs routine and delegated duties accor ding todepartmental policies.
Consult Operating Room scheduleto determine supply and equipmentneeds for proc edures; prepare anesthetizing locations for indicatedprocedure to includ esetting up and calibrating monitoring devices;troubleshoot anesthesia e quipment malfunctions, routing non-functionalequipment to the proper dep artment for repair.Assist anesthesiaproviders using aseptic or sterile t echnique with non-invasive andinvasive patient procedures including peri pheral and/or centralintravenous and/or arterial line placement; airway managementtechniques including mask, endotracheal and/or emergency metho ds andregional anesthesia techniques.Assist anesthesia providers withphy siological monitoring of patients notifying the anesthesiaprovider(s) of abnormal changes in vital signs and/or physicalappearance of the patient .Clean anesthesia machines, monitorsand equipment following procedures e stablished by InfectionControl.Stock anesthesia supplies in all anesthet izinglocations including ploss carts, fiberoptic carts, emergency airway bags and any other anesthesia supply location.Obtain suppliesand equipme nt as requested by anesthesia providers.Assist withpatient laboratory te sts and results including, but not limited to,ABG's, ACTs and other poin t of care tests.Obtain blood productsand pharmaceuticals assisting withp reparation anddelivery.Maintain immediate availability to assist in rout ineand emergency procedures.May act as a resource and role modelfor othe r anesthesia technicians, anesthesia providers, learners andother health care team members by providing technical guidance andinstruction as app ropriate.May provide verbal and writtenfeedback of interviewees and peer s as appropriate and as indicated bysupervisor.May serve as an instructo r/facilitator ofeducational in-services for other anesthesia technicians .Mayact as a role modelfor orientation and training of anesthesiatechnic ians and other health care team members.May assumeanesthesia technician charge role in managing daily work schedule ofanesthesia technicians and directing care to provide an efficient andsafe environment.Acquire and/ or maintain certification byobtaining annual continuing education requir ements.

Work generally requires two years of college coursework in biology, physiology, anatomy or related scientific fields.
Work requires one year of direct patient contact experience as an Emergency Medical Technician, Licensed Practical Nurse or related clinical experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Basic Life Support Provider Certification. American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians Certification preferred.
